Assistant Principal / Athletic Director

Rocky Smith comes to James Clemens with substantial administrative and athletic experience. Most recently Smith served as the first principal of Park Crossing High School in Montgomery, the first newly constructed high school in Montgomery in over 40 years. Prior to that Rocky was assistant principal at Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School (LAMP) and Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, both in Montgomery. Smith started his education career after working in the business world for several years at Walter T. McKee Junior High School as a technology teacher. He then was promoted to be technology coordinator and head baseball coach at LAMP. Smith guided his team to the class 3A state championship game in 2008, four years after taking over the program that had won one game prior to his arrival. The Tigers advanced to the semifinals in 2011, and were regularly ranked and respected state wide under his guidance. Smith was ASWA state coach of the year in class 3A once and Montgomery Metro class 1A-4A coach of the year three times. He also served as athletic director at LAMP overseeing facility upgrades and fielding of junior varsity teams in all sports. Smith and his wife, Laura, are excited to be a part of the Madison community along with their two elementary aged children, who will attend Madison City Schools.
