The Color Guard augments the marching band in the fall marching season.
The Color Guard uses silks, rifles, and sabres. At the end of the fall semester, guard members are welcome to audition for the Winter Guard team, which competes in the SCGC.

Thinking about trying out for the JCHS Color Guard? Fantastic!
No previous experience is needed for tryouts.
We will have a week-long clinic late in the spring where we will teach all the fundamentals and a tryout routine. The Monday (usually) after the clinic we will have the audition. Students will be allowed to take home a flag during the clinic week to practice at home. A physical is not needed and all other forms will be distributed at the May parent meeting once the guard is selected.
Once the guard is chosen for the year, we will have a few rehearsals after school in May to learn basics of marching. Then we will have some more meetings throughout the summer. Band camp dates are the last two weeks in July (all day) and attendance is mandatory.
In the fall semester color guard is a 4th block class and counts as either PE or Fine Arts credit. Required rehearsals are Tuesdays 4-6:30 and Thursdays 4-5:30. Band competitions typically are day-long events on Saturdays in October, possibly including dates during Fall Break.
It's a lot of work and a big commitment, but it's a whole lot of fun and a great group of students!
