In ten seasons as Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Sparkman High School, Luther Tiggs returned the Senator program to a position of state prominence.

Under Tiggs, the Senators advanced to five straight Northwest regional tournaments ( including six out of the last eight), Five area titles, Sports med Shootout title, Huntsville Times title, and one Final Four appearance. Under Tiggs, twenty-one (21) overall players have signed basketball scholarships including G.W. Boon (Bucknell), Jay-R. Strowbridge (Oregon), and former senator and Georgetown star Jonathan Wallace.

Tiggs played high school basketball at Russellville High School, Russellville, Alabama under Hall of Fame Coach Jack Tucker where he was a two-time All-American, two –time All-State, member of the 1982 State Championship team and named Most Valuable Player for the tournament. He played collegiately at University of Cincinnati (one year) and University of North Alabama (three years) where he still holds five records.

He earned his B.S. degree in Education from the University of North Alabamain 1988, and his Masters degree in Education from North Alabama in 1995. He just finished his degree in Instructional Leadership at the University of North Alabama.

Tiggs and his wife, the former Sylvia Wright, have two sons, Adrian (18) and Jordan (16).
