Computer Science Team

The club is organized and will be operated exclusively for student academic enhancement, through tutorial work stations, students mentoring students, related scientific purposes and projects, and community service in the furtherance of promoting enthusiasm and interest within students and the community at large, thereby increasing knowledge and performance in the field of computer science and its applications.

Core Activities

  • Coding Workshops: Learn languages like Python, C++, or HTML through hands-on practice.
  • Collaborative Projects: Build games, websites, or apps together.
  • Competitions: Join hackathons or programming contests.
  • Guest Speakers: Listen to industry professionals share career insights. 

 

Team Meeting are in Room B217 with Mrs. Paquette on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesday of the month during the second half of refuel (11:50 to 12:15)

Welcome to the Computer Science Club! Whether you have been coding for years or have never written a single line of code, our doors are wide open—no prior experience is required, and we actively provide tutoring to help everyone get up to speed. Joining for the year requires a $60 membership fee, which directly covers club t-shirts, competition registration fees. Beyond learning and building projects together, we also place a strong emphasis on community impact through local volunteering and peer tutoring opportunities throughout the school year.

  • Beginner-Friendly: We start from the absolute basics, with experienced members offering regular tutoring and mentorship.

  • Community Impact: Earn volunteer hours by assisting with local STEM events, organizing tech drives, and tutoring peers.

  • Membership Fee ($60): Covers your official club shirt, contest entry fees, event catering, and workshop supplies for the entire year.

Welcome to the Computer Science Club! Beyond our regular projects and workshops, joining competitive coding and cybersecurity challenges is one of the absolute best ways to level up your programming skills, build an impressive portfolio for college, and see how you stack up against students nationwide. Participation in competitions is 100% optional, but whether you are a total beginner curious about basic logic or an experienced coder looking to tackle complex algorithms, there are several team and individual contests available to us this year. Here is a look at the key competitions we can take on together, depending on what interests you most:

  • American Computer Science League (ACSL): A multi-round contest covering computer science theory (like graph theory and Boolean algebra) alongside short coding problems. Great for all skill levels!

  • USA Computing Olympiad (USACO): An online algorithmic contest series focused on problem-solving, data structures, and efficiency. Ideal for those looking to stretch their coding logic.

  • Governor’s App Challenge: a statewide computer programming competition for Alabama students.  The goal of the Challenge is to allow more students to gain recognition for their mastery and application of computer programming and design!

  • Congressional App Challenge: A semester-long opportunity where we design, code, and submit an original app to represent our congressional district.
