Math Team
What is Math Team?
Math Team is a competitive group where students show their mathematical skills by competing in rigorous contests with other students locally and around the country. Students learn problem solving strategies and engage in higher level mathematics that transcends the scope of the standard mathematics curriculum.
Expectations for Math Team
- Team Dues: $40 to cover registration fees and supplies
- Attend weekly meetings during the first half of Refuel on Thursdays to prepare for competitions
- Be willing to learn from other students and help other students learn
Competitions in November:
The AMC 12 is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice competition designed for students in grades 12 and below. It covers the full high school mathematics curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry. Calculus is excluded.
The AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice competition designed for students in grades 10 and below. The content covers mathematics typically taught in grades 9 and 10, including elementary algebra, basic geometry (such as the Pythagorean Theorem), area and volume formulas, elementary number theory, and elementary probability. Advanced topics like trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry are excluded.
Other Competitions:
- 2027 Alabama Statewide Math Contest (ACTM)
- Written Test: February 20, 2027 @UAH
- Ciphering: April 17, 2027 @Auburn University Montgomery
- American Regions Math League (ARML)
- June 4-5, 2027 @Western Carolina University
We will attend other competitions as decided upon by the team and the sponsor.
